Synopsis

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, a young woman, in pursuit of material gratification, was lured into the enemy's spy agency and she conducted a series of espionage activities.When she finally came to her senses inspired by an unbending member of the Communist Party, she was killed by the enemy. The film is adapted from Mao Dun's novel of the same name. The creators of the movie have deliberated thoroughly on the portrayal of the female protagonist Zhao Huiming. Despite being an enemy agent and a flawed woman, she is a character with complex thoughts and intense inner conflicts. Shortly after the movie’s release,, newspapers and magazines criticized it for being "too compassionate" to Zhao Huiming, claiming that it was in opposition to the policy of suppressing the anti-revolutionary movement at that time.
