Synopsis

On a dreary night, a telegram from Zhao Shuxin caused quite a stir within the Party organization. Its message: "Lost Black Cannon 301, find Zhao" triggered suspicion and scrutiny from the authorities. The Public Security Bureau delved into Zhao's background, discovering that he was an engineer working in a mine. They also uncovered his past conflicts with Hans, a German expert who had come to China for assistance. Despite this, the two had a close relationship. The company leaders refused to let Zhao serve as translator again. The newly assigned translator, however, caused significant losses due to a lack of technical knowledge and errors in translation. Adding to the suspicion, the deputy secretary of the Party Committee found it strange for Zhao, a miser, to spend money on telegram and considered him even more questionable. Despite the investigation, Zhao remained focused on his work, and during that time, his package arrived. Inside were the chess pieces he had lost and regained. Zhao felt aggrieved by the unfounded accusations.
