Synopsis

In the quaint town of San Yi, lived an old master woodcarver named Lai Jinshui. Despite his expertise, Lai was imprisoned for standing as a guarantor for another. In jail, he met Chen Wenxiong, a young man serving his sentence for injuring his brother-in-law. Seeing Chen's sincerity, Lai taught him the art of woodcarving. After they were released, Chen forwent his chance at a university education to continue learning from Lai in San Yi. Over time, Chen's heart was won by Xiu, Lai's daughter, who was born deaf but beautiful and kind-hearted. But love was not the only thing that stirred in San Yi, as a rival woodcarving shop owner, Zhou Xiaokai, sought to possess Xiu for himself. To add to the complications, Chen's former lover returned, complicating his feelings. One day, a thug broke into Lai's home, and Chen rushed to the rescue. Lai, paralyzed by a stroke, eventually entrusted his legacy and daughter to Chen.
