Synopsis

In the era before China's liberation, a destitute rural youth named Three Hairs arrived in Shanghai in search of a livelihood. Initially, he followed a distant relative who led a gang and learned the art of pickpocketing. However, Three Hairs' innate sense of compassion prevented him from preying on innocent victims, and he was subsequently cast out. Undeterred, Three Hairs pursued a career as a barber's apprentice, but was abruptly dispatched to Blind Wu, a fortune teller, to study divination. Three Hairs’ time with Blind Wu was fraught with hardship and mistreatment, leading him to join hands with a fellow victimized girl to take revenge. Ultimately, the pair fled their oppressor and embarked on a journey towards a brighter future.
