Synopsis

Li Ke, an educated cadre from Shanghai, married Zhang Ying, a child bride and model worker who grew up in poverty in Shandong's liberated area. Despite their love, their different upbringings led to a growing rift between them. Zhang's kindness in taking in a homeless child and sending Li's earnings back home to help with flood relief was misunderstood by Li, who accused her of neglecting their own needs. The couple eventually separated, but thanks to guidance from an old leader and contact with the workers, Zhang's outlook began to change. Li, too, realized his mistake and wrote to Zhang, seeking forgiveness. Eventually, their love prevailed, and they reconciled.
