Synopsis

In a remote and impoverished mountain village, a young woman named Hong Xing is betrothed to the village's wealthy man, Zhang Qiangguo, by her two brothers. But on their wedding night, Zhang accuses Hong Xing of not being a virgin and sends her back home, taking her sister in exchange. In a fit of rage, her brothers brutally beat Hong Xing and falsely blame her loss of virginity on the elementary school teacher, Li Mingguang. Despite their usual timidity, the brothers vow to restore their family's honor by threatening to kill Li Mingguang. Yet, no one believes that they will follow through on their threats. To prove themselves, they ultimately do the unthinkable and kill Li Mingguang.
