Synopsis

The peaceful village was under siege by bandits, and Shun was chosen to lead the people in their resistance. Tian was at odds with Shun due to his affections for Shun's sister. The bandits sent a spy to drive a wedge between the two, but Tian saw through his scheme and together with Shun, they subdued the spy. Many people in the village then took up arms to battle the bandits, and in the end, the village was defended. However, both Shun's sister and Tian perished in the fierce battle. The film uses metaphors such as "northern region" to allude to the Northeast China and "bandits" to symbolize the Japanese invaders, conveying a direct realism and expressing the people's unyielding faith in fighting to the end.
