In January 2026, marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark, The China Film Archive and the Danish Cultural Center jointly presented a retrospective of Danish classics at the Art Cinema of our Jiangnan Center. The program featured six landmarks of Nordic film history: The End of the World (1916), A Trip to Mars (1918), The Golden Clown (1926), Palo’s Wedding (1934, 4K restoration), Eight Chords (1944), and The Man Who Thought Things (1969).

Covering a wide range of themes and genres, including romance, science fiction, adventure, experimental film, and documentary, this program looks back to the remarkable creativity of early cinema over a century ago and offers an excellent viewing choice as world cinema marks its 130th anniversary.

Prior to each screening, a recorded introduction by Thomas Christensen, Curator and Head of Film Collections at the Danish Film Institute, was shown, guiding audiences into the surprising treasures of Danish cinema.
