Chinese Film Week opens in Bolivia to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic ties

On the evening of March 23 (local time), the Chinese Film Week opened in La Paz, Bolivia's capital. Hosted by the China Film Administration and the Chinese Embassy in Bolivia, the event is organized by the China Film Archive and the Bolivia Film Archive.

 This initiative is part of a series of celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Bolivia, as well as the 200th anniversary of Bolivia's independence.

 Chinese Ambassador to Bolivia Wang Liang, Bolivia’s Vice Minister of Culture Cordero, Director of the Bolivia Film Archive Márquez, and more than 200 guests attended the opening ceremony and watched the opening film The Wandering Earth 2 together. The atmosphere was lively, and local audiences expressed their amazement at the film’s high-level special effects production.

 In his speech at the opening ceremony, Wang Liang emphasized that film serves as a vital bridge for cultural exchange and mutual understanding between nations. He expressed China's commitment to using the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to deepen cultural ties with Bolivia and foster equal dialogue and harmonious coexistence among diverse civilizations.

 Wang also introduced the seven films featured in the event, highlighting their diverse themes, including China’s rich mythology, the strength of Chinese women, the dynamism of Chinese youth, and insights into family education in China. Speaking about The Wandering Earth 2, the opening film, he noted that it portrays a global effort to overcome an existential crisis, showcasing how nations unite to propel Earth toward a shared future.

 Cordero noted that as enthusiasm for Chinese culture continues to grow in Bolivia, more Bolivians are exploring and learning about it through various channels. He expressed his hope that Chinese Film Week would provide the Bolivian people with a deeper understanding of China. Additionally, he conveyed his desire for Bolivia to draw inspiration from China’s experience in filmmaking and production through this event.

 The Chinese Film Week ran from March 23 to 29, featuring screenings of seven acclaimed Chinese films: The Wandering Earth 2, Successor, YOLO, Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms, Pegasus 2, One and Only, and The Rescue. These outstanding films are making their mark on the international stage, contributing to the global promotion of Chinese culture.
