The 2025 Chinese Film Week opens in Dhaka, Bangladesh

On January 11, 2025, during the 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival, the Chinese Film Week opened in the capital of Bangladesh. The event was hosted by the Embassy of China in Bangladesh and the China Film Administration, jointly organized by the China Film Archive and the Dhaka International Film Festival Organizing Committee, and co-organized by TIGER.

The opening ceremony saw the attendance of nearly 500 guests, including Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Jalal Ahmed, the DIFF Director Ahmed Muztaba Zamal, alongside Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, representatives from the China Film Administration, and lead actress of Gold or Shit Yue Hong. The ceremony was followed by the screening of Moon Man, the opening film.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nasheed said that this event provides a platform for filmmakers worldwide to showcase their talents and share ideas. He expressed hope that it would promote international cultural exchange, boost the Bangladeshi film industry, and elevate Bangladeshi films to a global audience.


Ambassador Yao Wen stated that the opening ceremony marked the launch of a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of China-Bangladesh diplomatic relations and the Year of Cultural Exchange. He emphasized the significance of the specially curated "Songs of Time" poster exhibition, which highlights the 120-year evolution of Chinese cinema and its journey onto the global stage. Ambassador Yao expressed hope that audiences in Bangladesh, along with film enthusiasts worldwide, would gain a deeper appreciation of China and its rich cultural heritage through this initiative.

Running from January 11 to January 19, the week-long event brings to local audiences 15 Chinese productions, including Moon Man, Hi,Mom, Johnny Keep Walking!, Godspeed, New Gods: Yang Jian, Gold or Shit, Personal Persistence, The Midsummer's Voice, Life of Luosang, So Long For Love, Friday, Funfair, Gone with the Boat, Moonstruck, Back to Love, The Last Frenzy.
