On September 20th, the 2024 Young Shoots Film Festival kicked off at the Art Cinema of the China Film Archive. The event, organized by the China Film Director’s Guild and supported by Chanel, explored reality and fiction in film, lending a helping hand to young movie talents.

The star-studded line-up of guests this year included renowned directors, screenwriters and producers such as Jia Zhangke, Hirokazu Koreeda, and Sylvia Chang as well as Prof. Dai Jinhua, a film scholar at Peking University. Notably, Mr. Koreeda became the second international star to join the Young Shoot Project following the footsteps of Tilda Swinton last year.

Composed of two sections, "Masters Revisited" and "In Focus", the 2024 festival showcased six titles including the opening picture “Still Walking” together with “Before Next Spring”, “Growing Apart”, “A Long Shot”, “A Song Sung Blue ” and “A Man and a Woman” which was featured in a special screening. The six movies, each with a unique story, carried profound thoughts and emotions of their creators, informing the reflection on reality and fiction in film.
