The 2024 Chinese Film Week arrived in Vancouver, Canada on September 14th . Eight Chinese films produced in recent years with different themes, styles and genres were screened during the five-day event.

The festival was hosted by the China Film Administration and the Canadian Cultural and Creative Industries Society with the support of the Consulate-General of the PRC in Vancouver as well as the China Film Archive. Several local Chinese societies also contributed to the coordination.

At the opening ceremony, Ms. Sun Xianghui, Director of the China Film Archive, said in a video message that Vancouver is an important hub for the spread of Chinese culture abroad as local audiences are very familiar with Chinese movies. The eight excellent films selected for this extravaganza cover a wide range of themes and styles, representing recent standout works in Chinese cinema. They will surely resonate with Canadian audiences as well, added Ms. Sun.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent a congratulatory letter to the Film Week. Representatives from Canada's federal, provincial, and municipal governments presented at the festival offered their congratulations, expressing their hope that it would foster greater cultural exchange and cooperation between Canada and China.

On the opening day of the Film Week, audiences from various ethnic backgrounds watched the opening movie, “Nice View”. The screenings running  from September 13th to 17th also featured other titles including “B for Busy”, “Lighting Up the Stars”, “I Am What I Am”, “Beyond the Clouds”, “Johnny Keep Walking!”, “One and Only”, and “The Last Frenzy”.
