The China Film Directors' Guild (CFDG) has joined hands with Chanel in promoting the CFDG Young Director Support Program which aims to empower young film-making talent in China. Together, the two sides will host the 2023 Film Masterclass from September to December as well as an exhibition titled "Before Becoming a Director - The Essence and Future of Cinema" at the Art Cinema of the China Film Archive. Renowned actress Tilda Swinton is set to join this year’s program, participating in the master classes and the screenings during the exhibition.
Composed of two sections, "Masters Revisited" and "In Focus" , the exhibition will feature the opening film "Last and First Men" narrated by Tilda Swinton and the closing film "Horse Thief," directed by Tian Zhuangzhuang, the chair of the eighth edition of the program. Other notable movies to be showcased will include works by program alumni, such as "A Song For You" by Dukar Tserang, a graduate from the program’s second edition , "To Love again" by the third edition alumnus Gao Linyang, as well as "Flaming Cloud" by Liu Siyi who participated in the fourth edition.
