Opening of the 16th Bangkok Chinese Film Festival

On November 4, the 16th Bangkok Chinese Film Festival opened at the Thai Film Archive. The festival,organised by the Chinese Embassy in Thailand and the Thai Ministry of Culture,and hosted by the Chinese Cultural Centre in Bangkok, the China Film Archive and the Thai Film Archive, serves as a key cultural exchange event between China and Thailand on the eve of the latter’s hosting of the APEC summit.

Nine Chinese films are set to meet the public during the festival, including highly acclaimed new works produced in the past three years,such as Coffee or Tea? and Home Coming. In addition, the China Film Archive has planned a special poster exhibition entitled ‘the New Era of Chinese Film’,which features 32 posters of outstanding Chinese movies of the last decade.

Han Zhiqiang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Thailand, Itthiphol Khunpluem, Minister of Culture of Thailand, and Phinij Jarusombat,former Deputy Prime minister of Thailand and president of the Thai-Chinese Cultural and Relationship Council, were among the Chinese and Thai guests who attended the event and cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony which gathered  nearly 300 people, including industry experts and scholars, teachers and students from higher education institutions, Chinese and Thai media as well as members of the public. Sun Xianghui, director of the China Film Archive, Zuo Heng, researcher of the China Film Art Research Centre, and Xu Hongyu, director of the opening film Coffee or Tea? ; met with the Thai audience via video.
