On the evening of 13th September local time, the 10th China Film Festival opened at the Auditorium of the Shaw Foundation Alumni House of NUS. The event was jointly organised by the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, the Singapore-China Friendship Association and the NUS Office of Alumni Relations. As the supporting organisation, the China Film Archive provided four films for the festival, including The Battle at Lake Changjin , Hi Mom, Cliff Walkers and My Country, My Parents.

The opening ceremony brought together nearly 300 diplomatic envoys from various countries in Singapore and guests from all walks of life. H.E. Sun Haiyan, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, said in her speech that cinema, as an art form that spans time and space, can work like a bridge, connecting people’s heart and souls. “ By watching Chinese movies, everyone will realise that we are, essentially, all the same. People every where are just as kind, brave, resilient, hardworking and peace-loving", she added.

Mr Pan Guoju, President of the Singapore-China Friendship Association, praised China's development on the economic, social, technological and cultural fronts. He expressed the hope the festival would enable Singaporean audiences to get a clearer picture of the Chinese cinema and China at large.

The past decade has witnessed the China-Singapore friendship getting stronger. At the NUS, students and faculty alike have gained better insights into the Chinese life and culture thanks to the China Film Festival, said Prof Tan Eng Chye, President of the NUS.
