Chinese Film Festivals along the Silk Road project initiated by China Film Archive (aka CFA) was announced to start up on its press conference on September 20th, during the 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival in Xi’an, Shaanxi. This long term project is about that CFA will cooperate with cultural institutions in 5-10 related countries every year to hold a one-month film exhibition accompanied by professional interpretation. The delegates from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Swiss, Poland and the ASEAN members attended the press conference where some of the partners signed the Letter of Intent to cooperate with CFA at present.

During the preparing stage, the project has received generous supports from many cultural organizations in different countries. Archives, cinematheques and foundations in Russia, Serbia, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, etc. as well as Dolon TV in Kyrgyzstan, Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual Portuguesa etc. have offered cordial assistance to the film festivals’ landing.The good news is that, through efforts of both Korea China Culture Center and CFA, the “Silk Road Theater” which is the first specialized theater abroad for screening Chinese films with on-spot background introduction for long term successfully opened on September 27th in Seoul, Korea.

CFA’s director Ms. Sun Xianghui and Head of Jugoslovenska kinoteka Mr. Aleksandra Savic signed the Letter of Intent for the cooperations of the project.
The CFA director Ms. Sun Xianghui emphasized that the project would carry on the interconnecting spirit of Silk Road and explore diverse modes of cooperations. While we send Chinese films abroad, the partner countries’ good films are also welcome to come to China to take part in film festivals and exhibitions. The project also invites good films of the countries along the Silk Road to join in the festivals. Especially as one of Fiaf members, CFA will keep deepening the bilateral and multilateral collaborations with peer members and building the platform of cultural exchange and learning from each other.
